ACLU, Other Groups Sue U.S. Government Over Border Laptop Searches

The American Civil Liberties Union and other groups have filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) practice of searching laptops and other electronic devices at U.S. borders. The U.S. and Canadian governments this week said that Toshiba is voluntarily recalling some Satellite laptops for posing a burn hazard to customers. Laptops could overheat and possibly melt the area around the notebook's plug-in to the AC adapter, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada said in a joint statement . PlayStation 3 owners will finally be able to watch movies in 3D by October, Sony CEO Howard Stringer promised during his speech Wednesday at the Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) trade show in Berlin . HP to Announce 3D Laptop, Fastest Netbook

Hewlett-Packard on Wednesday plans to announce new laptops, including its fastest netbook and first 3D laptop, which combines cutting-edge technologies to raise the bar in performance.
