Ping on iTunes – Not So Hot

Apple's big overhaul of iTunes, announced Wednesday, turns the media management software into a fledgling social network thanks to a newly introduced feature called Ping. I would have expected more from Apple with this first attempt at building a community around iTunes. It's not all bad, but if Ping doesn't improve soon this music-oriented social network will bomb faster than an American Idol wannabe. Click to zoom in on image and explore what's new with the iTunes 10. Of course iTunes... Detailt »»

Apple Announces ITunes 10

Apple on Wednesday announced iTunes 10, a major upgrade to its music jukebox and media management software. Leading the changes in this version is a social networking component aimed at helping users discover new music. Apple CEO Steve Jobs described that featured--called Ping--as "Facebook and Twitter meet iTunes." A major new social component of the iTunes Store, Ping is an opt-in social network that lets customers follow their favorite artists, and be followed by friends. Artists can also interact... Detailt »»

Resize Images With Automator

Last week I told you how to use Automator to convert a bunch of iPhoto images to black and white. This prompted similar questions from forum visitors Macnutjohn and Matthew Bushey. Wrote Macnutjohn: I wonder if this could be used to resize images using ColorSync? To which I would reply, not using ColorSync but rather a different Automator action. It goes like this: As I explained in the original entry you can choose images in iPhoto and then copy them to a folder on your Desktop by using Automator's... Detailt »»

Why Oracle is Right to Sue Google

The tech industry loves a good vendor slugfest, and the upcoming legal battle between Google and Oracle has all the makings of a truly spectacular one. At issue is Dalvik, the unique, Java-based runtime at the heart of Google's Android smartphone OS. Oracle, which gained stewardship of the Java platform when it bought Sun Microsystems in 2009, claims Dalvik knowingly, willfully, and deliberately infringes on Java intellectual property. According to a complaint filed with the U.S. District... Detailt »»
