Canadian Retail Sales Advance Less Than Expected in June

Canadian retail sales advanced 0.1% in June after falling a revised 0.4 percent the previous month amid economists’ expectations of 0.4 percent. Despite the muted reaction subsequent to the report, it is noteworthy that the USDCAD intraday rally is now testing the 23.6 percent Fibonacci retracement on April 21st to May 25th upswing. Focus now turns to the U.S. existing home sales report.                   ... Detailt »»

Today, Saab confirmed with organizers of the L.A. 2011 Scion tC: First Drive

Scion invited journalists to San Diego this week to drive pre-production examples of the new tC sports coupe — the brand’s most popular model as recently as 2007 and one whose average buyer age, 26, falls closer to Scion’s target youth demographic than the xB or xD hatchbacks. As we just reported, the tC hits dealerships Oct. 1. Perhaps it’s appropriate that the San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the region has just endured its chilliest July since 1933. The front-wheel-drive tC boasts... Detailt »»

Large SUV Sales Surge Faster Than Small Cars

Plug-in electric hybrids and electric cars have taken up much of the digital airwaves over the past few weeks (or years, depending on your perspective), but it may surprise you to find out that “passé” full-size SUVs are increasing in popularity once again.  So far this year, full-size SUV sales have increased 19%, beating overall industry growth of 17%. The full-size SUV category is composed of large body-on-frame SUVs, like the GMC Yukon, and large crossovers, such as the Lincoln MKT... Detailt »»

‘Strangest’ Parking Garages Put Others to Shame

No one would really use the phrase “architectural wonder” when describing a parking garage. These monolithic piles of concrete and steel are so utilitarian in function that most people tolerate their presence as a necessity, which is a far cry from marveling at their design.  Still, some architects had the foresight to design parking garages in ingenious ways.  Examples of phenomenal garage design include Volkswagen's Autostadt in Wolfsburg, Germany (pictured above). This 20-story... Detailt »»

New Cars Increasingly Composed of Recycled Materials

We all know recycling is good for the planet. Melting down old soda bottles to make new ones reduces what goes into landfills and the amount use of oil used to make many plastics. What may surprise you is that your old Coke bottle may be a part of your new car.  According to the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers, 9 percent of all recycled milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles and other high-density polyethylenes ended up in cars in 2008.  Those recycled jugs and bottles can... Detailt »»

Department of Energy Launches Alternative Fuel Locator

Last week, we pointed out a new mobile phone application that tracks recently recalled autos or tires, and this week we’ve found another useful tool. The Department of Energy’s new alternative-fuel locator app allows users to find the five closest biodiesel, electricity, ethanol, hydrogen, natural gas and propane fueling sites.  For people currently driving ethanol or biodiesel vehicles, this should come in handy with locating the nation’s 2,052 E85 and 659 B20 fuel stations. For earlier... Detailt »»
