2011 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 Adds Equipment, Power

Now in its third model year, the 2011 Hyundai Genesis gets more standard equipment and more power on the uplevel Genesis 4.6 trim. But you’re going to pay for them. The Genesis 4.6 gets an added 10 horsepower to its 4.6-liter V-8, which now makes 378 hp with unleaded gasoline and 385 hp with premium. The boost in power actually occurred as a running change to the 2010 model year that occurred midcycle, according to Hyundai spokesmen Dan Bedore. It’s rated at 17/25 mpg city/highway. Besides... Detailt »»

2011 Kia Sportage Named IIHS Top Safety Pick

The 2011 Kia Sportage won the honor of Top Safety Pick in the small SUV category by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Since the Sportage is a twin of the 2010 Hyundai Tucson (also a Top Safety Pick), the Kia SUV wasn’t physically tested; instead, the same ratings from the Tuscon were applied to the Sportage, according to IIHS sources.  To earn the award, a vehicle must receive the top rating of Good in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. The vehicle also must have electronic... Detailt »»

Hyundai Aims for 50-mpg Fleet by 2025

Currently, Hyundai is the most efficient automaker in the U.S., with a fleet average of 30.9 mpg that bests Honda’s 30.1 mpg. The company announced today in a statement that it’s setting a goal of raising that average to 50 mpg by 2025. That may sound staggering, but the company also has a stated goal of 35 mpg by 2015. It isn’t there yet. It needs to reach 35.5 by 2016 to meet new federal guidelines. What Hyundai has going for it is it’s not a full-line manufacturer. It makes no trucks,... Detailt »»

New Hyundai Spied in Chicago?

We’ve joked before that automakers shouldn't drive by Cars.com HQ in a test car they don’t want photographed. Besides the hundreds of employees here with camera phones (thanks to our own Jacque Harper for these), there are also thousands of tourists here this week for Taste of Chicago and the Sears Willis Tower.   Using our keen intellect and observational skills, this looks like a Hyundai to us. The wheels give it away because they seem to be those used on the 2010 Hyundai Tucson... Detailt »»

Hyundai Equus iPad, App Update

There was some confusion when Hyundai announced that its new flagship sedan — the upcoming Equus — would come with an iPad loaded with the owner's manual and more. USA Today has provided an update about the app. Rather than being crammed into the glove box, the hefty owner's manual will be an iPad app that will include text, pictures and even how-to videos covering every aspect of the Equus. Hyundai is working with an independent developer to figure out how all this will work.... Detailt »»

Sonata Turbo Hits 60 mph in 6.5 Seconds, Hyundai Says

Autoblog is in South Korea test-driving Hyundai’s upcoming Sonata Turbo, and while the website can’t reveal anything about the driving experience, it has discovered one nugget. Hyundai told the assembled media at the event that not only will the Turbo get similar mileage to the regular four-cylinder engine – 22/34 mpg city/highway – but that it will scoot to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds.   While that’s not as fast as some V-6 counterparts, it is close and the fact that the mileage is so... Detailt »»

Hyundai Genesis, Mercedes-Benz E-Class Earn Top Safety Picks

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has announced that the 2010 Hyundai Genesis and Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans have earned Top Safety Pick awards. To get the nod, a car must earn the agency's top score of Good in front, side and rear crash tests, and it must pass a roof-crush strength test and be equipped with electronic stability control. The roof test, which was added for 2010, significantly reduced the number of overall Top Safety Picks, but IIHS is testing more and more vehicles... Detailt »»

Next Hyundai Elantra Debuts Overseas

If you didn’t have the Busan International Motor Show on your radar, you probably didn't expect to see Hyundai’s redesigned compact take a bow. But there it was, the Avante as it’s called in the automaker’s native Korean market. Unlike the reveal of the revamped Accent last week , there was no confusion in the press release about this being the new Elantra that will eventually be sold in the U.S. Hyundai spokesman Dan Bedore would not confirm if this model is anything like what... Detailt »»
