Testing iPhone 4 FaceTime With Chrysler’s In-Car Wi-Fi

We can’t think of anything that would send chills down the spines of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and safety advocates everywhere more than video chatting while driving. While we do not endorse the behavior, two new technologies have made the seemingly sci-fi task possible. The new iPhone 4 has a video-to-video feature called FaceTime, however, both users need to not only have an iPhone 4 but also a Wi-Fi connection. How do you get a Wi-Fi connection into a car? Well, you bolt a Wi-Fi... Detailt »»

AT&T Navigator for iPhone: Review

I've always wondered why turn-by-turn, voice-guided GPS wasn't on the first iPhone, but now I think I know. Having used AT&T's Navigator and many of its competitors, I can only conclude that a full-function consumer GPS is harder to pull off than a 20-year-old tattoo. Each portable GPS app, service and device has its share of glaring omissions and malfunctions to go along with their inherent utility. AT&T's new Navigator is a solid product with a couple of promising features,... Detailt »»

McGraw, who was being interviewed about McGraw-Hill's latest financial results, added that the tablet is going to be based on the iPhone operating system. ... Detailt »»

Apple’s Tablet: Who’ll Buy it?

It's less than 24 hours before the big announcement, and we really hope that A pple's got a tablet on the table, because everybody wants one ( even if it costs $700+ ). New research by consulting firm Solutions Research Group Consultants Inc. (SRG) says that almost two-thirds of U.S. consumers (63 percent) are interested in an Apple tablet, and 21 percent are very interested. According to the SRG blog, this is higher than the initial level of interest in the iPhone at the time of its... Detailt »»

iPad Specs: What Apple Announced (and What We Still Don’t Know)

Unless you've been living under a particularly heavy rock, you're aware that Apple unveiled its iPad today. We'll have lots of coverage of the device, but here's a quick look at the announced specs. Many of our hardware questions have been answered, but many questions still remain. Display: 9.7 inch IPS It's particularly interesting that Apple is going with IPS (in-plane switching) technology. These are usually found in higher-end desktop monitors because they provide better color reproduction... Detailt »»

Google Voice on the iPhone: What You Can’t Do

Yes, Google Voice for the iPhone is finally here, albeit as a Web app , allowing you to place calls from your Google Voice number, send free text messages and view transcribed voicemails. While most of the app's core functions remain intact, there are certain limitations to the Web app. We've got a chart listing everything that works and doesn't work (click on the image for a closer look), but here's the gist: The Web app version of Google Voice can be accessed at m.google.com/voice... Detailt »»

Apple’s iPad and the Flash Clash

Apple's iPad has been surrounded by debate since its debut this week. Now, the heavily hyped tablet is at the center of a controversy that's reaching the federal government. This latest iPad beef isn't about the device's frequently mocked name or any surrounding trademark concerns ; rather, it's about the iPad's apparent lack of Flash support . Product demos and statements from Adobe suggest the device is not Flash-friendly -- but Apple's promotional materials paint a very different picture.... Detailt »»

Black Hat Attendees Scrutinize Adobe Flash, Website Flaws

At the Black Hat Security Conference beginning this weekend in Washington, D.C., security specialists plan to show how fragile the construct of software and hardware can be as they poke holes in the sometimes delicate weave of the Web. Foreground Security's senior security researcher Michael Bailey, for instance, intends to perform live attacks against some of the top Web sites to show they can be compromised by exploiting what he says are design flaws in Adobe Flash. "The point I will... Detailt »»

Summary: Apple Puts an End to Tablet Rumors With IPad

As had been widely expected, Apple released a tablet device Wednesday. But the details of the new device--called the iPad--and its price tag may have caught some Apple observers by surprise. The iPad falls between a laptop and smartphone, according to Apple, with the device capable of doing many of the same things an iPhone can but on a larger, 9.7-inch LCD screen. The tablet is a half-inch thick, weighs 1.5 pounds, and comes in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities. The 16GB model starts at $499, with... Detailt »»
